Name:Rue (Hunger Games)
Birthdate:May 1
Location:Illinois, United States of America

Deep in the meadow, under the willow
A bed of grass, a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your eyes
And when they open, the sun will rise

Here it's safe, and here it's warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet--
-- and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.

Here is the place where I love you.

Rue was the oldest in a family of six children in District 11. She was a singer of songs, a friend of the mockingjays that inhabited the orchards where she worked every day. For as swiftly and lightly as she jumped from treetop to treetop, Rue could have been a bird herself.

She was twelve when she was sent to the Games. Underestimated by her opponents because of her small size and apparent fragility, Rue managed to stay alive for several days and even formed an alliance with Katniss Everdeen. But fleetness and alliances weren't enough to last forever and like many Tributes before her, Rue lost her life in the Games. Rue was twelve when she died, cradled in the arms of the Girl on Fire.

In life Rue was a sweet-natured girl who put the well-being of her younger siblings before her own, giving them her ration of food before going out and foraging the fields for more. It wasn't in her to hurt others, ultimately causing her downfall in the Games because she wouldn't sink to the level of brutality demonstrated by the other Tributes.

But even in death she lives on, in songs sung by mockingjays and the memories of those who loved her.
